Looking to shed a few pounds? According to science, some nighttime wine might just be the solution.
A study out of Washington State University from July 2015 showed that wine and weight loss go hand-in-hand, thanks to a substance called resveratrol. The compound, which is found in red wine, was shown to help convert “white fat” into “beige fat.” (The latter is easier to burn off.)
As far as when it’s best to sip on that vino, a separate 2012 study concluded that a late-night glass of wine curbed snacking, which, in turn, aided in weight loss (but, it should be noted that the study involved bees, not humans).
So while this news may tempt you to keep a bottle of red on your nightstand, not so fast—doctors are typically wary of recommending that people start drinking wine, since too much alcohol can obviously have harmful effects on the body. It’s also worth noting that there are much more efficient (and potentially healthier) ways of reaping the benefits of resveratrol.
“Many of the beneficial polyphenols are insoluble and get filtered out during the wine production process,” said Professor Min Du of Washington State. Instead, he suggests snacking on blueberries, grapes and strawberries, all of which are natural sources of resveratrol.
In case the thyroid gland does not produce sufficient amounts of hormones, it comes to a condition known as hypothyroidism.
These hormones are extremely important as they regulate the function of the heart and brain, cholesterol levels, respiration, and body temperature. Hypothyroidism leads to numerous serious health issues, including heart disorders, joint pain, obesity, and infertility.
Here are the main signs of hypothyroidism:
- Weight gain
- Intolerance to cold
- Muscle cramps
- Dry skin
- Low libido
- Hair loss
- Dry skin
- Brittle nails
Here are the main signs of hyperthyroidism:
- Appetite changes
- Weight loss
- Frequent bowel movements (similar to diarrhea)
- Excessive sweating
- Sudden paralysis
- Increased blood sugar levels
- Hair thinning and loss
- Mental problems
- Intolerance to heat
Most doctors recommend hormone replacement therapy or pills in order to resolve both diseases. However, due to the adverse side-effects of this type of treatment, it’s best to fix them naturally and we have the perfect remedy for it. The drink you can see below will nourish your body with important nutrients, boost your metabolism and regulate the work of your thyroid, effectively improving your overall health. Here’s what you need to do:
- 1 cup of cranberry juice;
- 7 cups of water;
- ¼ of a teaspoon of freshly squeezed lemon juice;
- ¾ of a tablespoon of freshly squeezed orange juice;
- ¼ of a teaspoon of dry ginger;
- ¼ of a teaspoon of nutmeg;
- ½ teaspoon of Ceylon cinnamon.
- First, boil the water and then add the cranberry juice as well as the spices.
- Simmer this well for around twenty minutes.
- In the end, let it cool down and then add the orange and lemon juice.
- Your drink is ready to consume throughout the day.
This juice is efficient because of many reasons. Cranberries are full of iodine, which helps in the production of thyroid hormones. Vitamin C is also this type of helper and you get that from the squeezed juices.
Ginger gives you magnesium, which reduces the risk of thyroid diseases. The risk of getting hypothyroidism is also lowered with the help of cinnamon. Another tip for boosting your thyroid gland is increasing the intake of vitamin D, selenium, and vitamin B12.
